Les Voiles de Saint‑Tropez 2025: the Corinthian spirit still alive

This year, I will have the chance to be aboard one of the racing sailboats. A rare privilege that fills me with excitement, and the perfect opportunity to share those magical moments on the water. If you are there in person, it would be a real pleasure to bump into you on a dock or during a regatta.

Since its beginnings, the Tropezian event has been rooted in a unique tradition: each class—there are nineteen in total—receives a trophy in a purely Corinthian spirit, inherited from the Nioulargue. Here, there’s no question of money or prizes: crews sail solely for honor and the pleasure of victory.
From 27 September to 5 October 2025, nearly 300 sailboats invited by the Société Nautique de Saint‑Tropez will compete for glory, under the watchful eye of prestigious partners.

The Rolex Trophy: a prestigious history

The adventure between Rolex and Les Voiles began in 2006, with the victory of the schooner *So Fong*, a 25‑meter jewel built in 1937. For a decade, this prize honored the most beautiful classic sailboat over 16 meters.

Since then, the Swiss brand annually highlights a different category of Tradition sailboats, offering special recognition to these restored vessels sailed with passion. In 2023, it was *Varuna*, a yawl from 1939, that prevailed. Last year, it was *Marga*, a 10 m JI skippered by Torben Graël, that was celebrated.

For this 20th edition, Rolex will reward the Big Boats. Among the contenders, about a dozen giants, including the impressive *Atlantic*, which will make its official debut.

BMW and Edmond de Rothschild: Moderns and Maxis in the spotlight

The Moderns will find their champion with the BMW Trophy, awarded this year to the IRC B category. It includes high-level boats—TP 52, Wally Rocket, First, Solaris Club Swan, and Code 1—designed for racing and crewed by teams combining seasoned professionals and enthusiasts.

On the Maxis side, Edmond de Rothschild annually distinguishes one of the four classes. In 2024, *Jolt*, *Lyra*, *Yoru*, and *Six Jaguar* inscribed their names on the roll of honor. The suspense remains to see which boat will succeed in 2025.

The Corinthian Spirit: returning to the roots

It all began in 1981 with the friendly challenge between *Pride* and *Ikra*, which gave rise to the Nioulargue. Since 2003, the spirit of that duel has continued with the “55 Cup”. This year, Club 55—founded by Patrice de Colmont and based on Pampelonne beach—celebrates its 70th anniversary. On this occasion, a single anniversary regatta, the *Club 55 Anniversary Cup*, will be held.

François Carn, former president of the Yacht Club de France, summed up this philosophy perfectly: humility in victory, elegance in defeat, courtesy even in extreme maneuvers, and above all, remembering that regatta remains a game.

The 2025 poster: the power of colors

The artist Jacques Cordier was chosen this year to illustrate the event. His canvas, worked with a palette knife, evocatively portrays yacht clashes around the buoys. The interplay of blues, light, and texture conveys the full power and poetry of the sea.

Jacques Cordier passed away in 1975, leaving behind a varied body of work from watercolor to oil, always inspired by maritime landscapes. His paintings, still visible in Saint‑Tropez this summer, recall the legacy of an artist who became a Tropezian by adoption.
